As “Is It Cake?” trends on Netflix, I thought it would be the perfect time to share this two-tier wedding cake (with edible flowers!) from a wedding at The Victorian in Youngsville last year. Personally, I love adding unexpected (edible!) touches. Is having a cake that tastes as good as it looks important to you? Me too. And as a wedding cake designer in North Caroline, The Victorian in Youngsville is one of my favorite wedding venues. Owned by Guiliana and Brian, The Victorian was a home built in the late 1800’s and has since been carefully and beautifully restored. Today, it is one of the top wedding venues in Youngsville, and the perfect wedding venue to enjoy cocktails in the courtyard beneath the beautiful magnolia tree, and dinner under the stars with friends and family. Likewise, I always love to deliver my wedding cakes to the Victorian!
Before I dive into all of the gorgeous details of this stunning fall wedding, but before I do, a quick introduction in case this is your first time stumbling across Sugar Euphoria. Based in Raleigh, we design cakes that are the center of the most memorable and joyous moments of your life. Cake is more than just cake around here! Fall Wedding Florals on a Rainy Wedding Day
Emily and Buddy didn’t let gray skies overshadow their wedding at The Victorian! Although nobody wishes for rain on their wedding day, we always need to prepare for the unexpected here. Fortunately, Emily and Buddy hired experienced (and wonderful!) wedding professionals and this fall wedding was a thing of beauty despite the rain. There were five different backup plans ready to go.
For the wedding design (and similarly to their wedding cake above), Emily and Buddy were drawn to organic shapes and arrangements for both their bouquet and ceremony arch florals. Underneath their wedding tent, the bright fall wedding colors absolutely popped, and looked incredibly stunning yet effortless.
Fall Wedding Cake with Edible Flowers
One of the first tips I share for couples who want to add wedding flowers to their cake, is to double check that they are in fact edible! I share more in this post here, but the truth is a majority of the florals you see on wedding cakes on Pinterest are, in fact, toxic. Even if the flowers you source ARE edible, you still need to consider pesticides or other chemicals. You can’t just throw anything on your cake!
For Emily and Buddy’s gorgeous fall wedding cake, we chose edible flowers from a farm in California. Primarily, we chose microflowers and pansies. Adding edible florals added so much beauty and sophistication to their wedding cake, without worrying about the wilting of traditional flowers. Love this look? The key to getting this dreamy pressed look was to add a simple piping gel to the back of each flower. This ensured none of the flowers would fall off the cake during their wedding day. Personally, I hope this very organic approach to cake decorating stays!
Wedding Cake Alternatives & Single Serving Options
On top of their two-tier wedding cake, we created a wedding dessert table with “dessert shooters” of apple pie, blueberry pie, and lemon cheesecake. Perfect for a fall day and absolutely delicious! Although I love a wedding cake (and am admittedly biased), nothing makes my heart happier than adding a few “wedding cake alternatives” to a wedding day. When planning your own wedding dessert, don’t be afraid to get creative. You can absolutely have your cake and eat something else too. These single servings have been a huge hit for the past two years (for obvious reasons). I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon!
