As wedding cake artists, we rarely get to bring the drama! After nearly two hundred years of standing as a historical icon in Hillsborough, The Colonial Inn has opened its door to serve as a premier event space. It’s perfect if you are looking for a wedding venue in downtown Historic Hillsborough. I’m honored to say that yours truly had the pleasure of participating in the first photo shoot at the inn. It did not disappoint and I’m so excited to share it with you today! This historic venue will be a 28-room boutique hotel with a space for events and a bar open to the public. At Sugar Euphoria, we were beyond thrilled to bring the wedding cake for this styled shoot. For those that don’t know, a styled shoot is when you take “real wedding photos” without the restrictions placed on a real wedding. Additionally, it offers vendors a chance to flex their creativity (which we love) and add gorgeous editorial photos to our portfolio.

We partnered with Harmony Events to highlight the historic beauty of this home. During the shoot, the rock star team from Harmony Events set up several different sites throughout the venue: from ceremony to reception, to portrait taking. Each location was visually stunning and so unique. On top of that, they even arranged for three diverse couples to model the joy of a wedding day at the site.

Winter Wedding Inspiration in North Carolina

We wanted to bring in the textures and rich colors that are usually associated with fall and winter weddings. When you start designing your wedding, make sure to keep the season in mind. Winter weddings allow a little more drama, and rich burgundy and red/pink accents make for a rich and dynamic palette.

Everyone working the styled shoot went above and beyond to ensure the success. It’s a welcome reminder of how weddings can take a village. How gorgeous is the below invitation suite from Em Paper Co.? I absolutely love the depth of the colors. Moreover, Morgan Caddell Photography did an amazing capturing the beauty of the Colonial Inn. She photographed the beauty of the design elements and the vibrant colors of the florals. To sum it up, it’s always so wonderful to work with other incredible wedding vendors across North Carolina.

Modern Wedding Inspiration ft. a Dramatic Black Wedding Cake

I was thrilled to be able to create the wedding cake for this wedding photo shoot. For our cake, we wanted something that was both striking yet feminine, dramatic yet whimsical. The outcome was like something out of a Disney film. The all-black cake (a bold choice!) with floral bas relief was draped in greenery and red roses that paid homage to this venue’s fairytale-esque qualities. We hope that this photoshoot and our cake captured the absolute magic The Colonial Inn would bring to any couple’s wedding day!
