Pressed Flower Cake at The Estate at River Run

Inspiration

January 13, 2021

back to blog

At the end of 2019, my friend, Perry Vaile put out a call for women to join her book club/Bible study. At the time, I was desperately craving adult interaction outside of work, and I realized this was the perfect opportunity! I was able to study the Bible with old friends like Amy and Priscilla, and meet new ones by being part of that book club. As I am sure you can guess, our time meeting was cut short due to COVID-19, but I wouldn’t trade the time we got to spend together for anything! Estate at River Run

The Estate at River Run

Little did I know, a few months later my friend Amy from that Bible study, would ask me to create a cake for a shoot that she was doing with Perry at The Estate at River Run. This absolutely breathtaking venue in Virginia offers 22,000 square feet of beauty and elegance for your event in a Georgian Revival style. From brick promenade to 18-foot columns, to pool house, to tennis courts, The Estate at River Run is stunning. So of course I said yes!

Fall Wedding Color Palette

Amy and Perry created a tablescape that was just as beautiful as the venue on one of the mansion’s balconies. Additionally, The fall color palette offset the tablescape perfectly. For each place setting, we created fig tarts for the decor. If only I had a dining room that always looked as perfect as this table!

Pressed Flower Cake

For the cake (my favorite of course!), we decided on a lighter brown color with dried flower decorations sourced from a variety of areas. I decided on fondant as the medium and adhered the flowers to the cake with piping gel. It was pretty tricky because the stiff nature of the florals meant that they bend to the curvature of the cake. The cake was a huge hit, and it gave me a lot of excitement to see more pressed-flower cakes in weddings throughout 2021.
