The Meadows in Raleigh
It’s not often that I get creative freedom. Usually, we work along with the client to construct a cake that pulls from their inspiration photos but is still their own so it was a breath of fresh air when Caroline and Michael gave me complete creative control on their cake for the wedding at The Meadows in Raleigh.
Creating a Geode Cake
When we met for our design meeting, they brought me inspiration photos of some cool geode cakes. For those who might not know, a geode is a small cavity in rock lined with crystals or other mineral matter. The cakes feature the crystal like details and bright colors and have been very popular this season.
We could have replicated one of the designs from their inspiration photos but we wanted to do something a little fresher. They were using berry tones and I had to create those rich colors on the cake. This meant creating custom-colored rock candy!
Even though they had a really small guest count, we decided to go big so we added a few faux tier to punch up the wow-factor. One of the tiers was covered in geodes and I added some gold leaf for even more shine.
In addition to having a beautiful wedding, this couple was a dream to work with. All the vendors talked about during set-up and for days afterward was how amazing the bride and groom were. It’s a wonderful feeling to attract your ideal client again and again.
