What Is A Groom’s Cake?
Here’s a little history lesson for you. The tradition of having a groom’s cake at the wedding started during the Victorian Era in England. It was typically a lot richer than the wedding cake and incorporated chocolate, fruit, or liquor, which contrasted with the lighter wedding cake.
The groom’s cake was also cut, placed in boxes, and given to guests as party favors. Legend has it that if a single woman slept with the box of cake under her pillow, she would dream about her future husband (major side-eye to that).

When Is The Groom’s Cake Served?
The tradition of a groom’s cake became very popular down here in the South. It usually is presented as a gift from the bride to the groom and is served either during the rehearsal dinner or on a separate table from the wedding cake.
What Is The Purpose of Groom’s Cake?
Why get a groom’s cake? I think that it’s a great way to give some recognition to your guy on a day (or weekend) that focuses on the bride. Plus, its a great way to share the groom’s personality, interests, and tastes with your guest.
Having a hard time deciding on a design for the cake? Well, here are ideas for a groom’s cake.
Groom’s Cake Ideas
Sports
If your husband-to-be has a thing for tailgating, still follows his college team, paints his face, or yells crazily at the TV when his favorite team is playing, then a sports-themed cake is perfect for him. There are so many design options – from jerseys to stadiums, and even mascots.
Cars
Gift your groom with his dream car on your wedding day … in cake form. Or surprise him with a replica of his first car. It doesn’t have to be a car. Motorcycles, trucks, and bikes would also make great designs.
Hobbies
Maybe he’s really into video games and you just can’t get the hang of the controller. Or maybe he is an avid golfer. Maybe he’s just a little eccentric (and you love it).
A groom’s cake is a great way to acknowledge his loves (other than you, of course) and show him that you really are listening when he talks about birdies, and drives or whatever else men do on the golf course.
I can’t wait to hear all of the cool cakes that you’ve dreamed up for your future hubby. Let me know your ideas for a groom’s cake. I would love to help!
Stay sweet,
Randi
