COVID- 19 cancelled our travel plans
Once upon a time, my entire family was supposed to be traveling across Europe this summer. My mom and I had big plans to drink bottles of wine and champagne, swim in the Mediterranean, and dine al fresco. Of course, those plans have been changed but I’ve been making the most of it. Like drinking good wine at home, or taking a trip to Carolina Beach, and BBQing on the deck.
The Parlour at Manns Chapel
Now that you know all of this, you can imagine how excited I was to participate in this Al Fresco Wedding Inspiration styled shoot. Rachel Slauer reached out to me to design the cake and once she sent over the design board, I had to say yes. The colors palette was so unique and beautiful. And once I realized that Adelyn was the photographer and the venue was The Parlour at Manns Chapel, I knew that the photos would be stunning.
Terracotta Wedding Cake
I went back and forth between a deep yellow cake (almost the color of dijon) and terracotta. Ultimately, I settled on terracotta to provide an Old World feel to the shoot. I added some texture using royal icing colored with Americolor’s terracotta gel coloring (the same I used in the fondant) and a sponge. Pieces of dried fondant in a peach color were also added to provide another textural element. I was so happy with the way the cake turned out, especially with the flowers from Hathaway Floral Designs that are always so pretty.
