Getting Down to the Core & January Goals

Friends, promise me that you will commit this saying below to memory.  Seriously.

In October, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Making Things Happen conference in Chapel Hill, which is led by some truly amazing women.  I'm going to attempt to give you a brief run-down of those two days, but I'm sure that I won't be able to do it justice.

I heard about the MTH conference a few years ago, but I never thought it was something that I need as a public health student. Then, I decided to start Sugar Euphoria and I found myself just floating along.  I had no true business goals, no financial plan, I just knew that I wanted to make beautiful cakes. But I didn't have a true mission.  I couldn't articulate the true heart of the company.  I couldn't tell you who my ideal bride is, what I want my life to look like at 80 years old, or what is most important to me in life.

Thankfully, all of that was answered during the conference.  We were asked to peel back the layers and do some serious soul-searching.  We didn't have to present our best selves, the image that we show on social media, but we were asked to share our deepest fears and our biggest dreams.  This part wasn't easy, but it was so cathartic. More importantly, we were given great tips on how to erase those fears and steps to reach our goals.

I'm so thankful for Lara, Emily, Gina, Nancy, Amber and Rhiannon. For new and old friends that I met at the conference. For the women (and a few men) who shared their hearts with us.

january goals

  1. Remodel the front of Serendipity Sweet Shoppe.  I would love for the storefront to resemble a cute little cake boutique.
  2. Send out postcards to new vendor friends and thank you cards to past and future brides.
  3. Schedule more styled shoots.  I have a ton of ideas for dessert tables that I would love to create.
  4. Dedicate time daily to mastering a new technique.
